Bedroom [On A Budget] Makeover

Happy Thursday friends! Recently my son got slime on our bed, and even though we got it off it made me realize how unhappy I was with my room. I know that sometimes we can just be content with what we have, but for me this was about prepping to add a new baby into our family and taking control of my personal space and making it the least chaotic as possible. I wanted comfort, calm, serene, so I quickly decided to remove all color from our bedroom and replace it with a gray, white, cream, tan color palette. I made the switch for under $90!!!

So how did I do it, and what did I purchase?

Once I picked a color palette, I decided to focus on picking a duvet cover and rug that would work well together at an affordable price. I found both on amazon! The duvet is by Wake in Cloud was $30! PLUS it’s 100% cotton. It’s AMAZING quality for the price. The jacquard stitching makes it look more expensive than a printed pattern, and adds a nice texture to the look.

The rug was only $21! I love how they look together. Since the pattern on the bed is more structured and geometric, I went with a more abstract, feminine looking rug.

Next was sheets. I had one good set of light gray sheets, so I decided to go with crisp white to replace the coral set we had that had begun to pill and get really uncomfortable. After searching on amazon, and even walmart and Marshall’s and realizing it was really hard to find affordable 100% cotton sheets, a friend told me to try Ikea. I found 100% cotton sheets for $25!

Finally was the final touches. Here is where I will suggest the top way to save money. Use what you have already first. If you don’t like your dresser, consider painting it. Or save money by replacing the hardware and giving it a facelift that way. Look around your house for throw pillows or blankets you can swap out or mix and match before buying new ones. This also goes for wall decor.

In my case, I had a pink pillow in my room that I knew would work on my settee in my kitchen, so I swapped it with the neutral woven pillow that’s currently on my bed now. I found a small pillow for my rocker that was pillow + cover for $7.99 and I thought that would balance the rug with the rocker well and was worth the purchase. I knew I wanted a round pillow with a furry like texture to soften everything up but wasn’t willing to spend a lot. I also wanted it to be a tan or cream color to bring more balance to the bed. I waited on this and happened to be in Five Below and found a round furry tan pillow for $5!!! It pays to wait it out, search unexpected places, and don’t pull the trigger until you find what you really love at the price you want to pay. I also swapped the throw blankets for others around my house!

Finally, was wall art. I had a textile wall hanging that I made years ago on our wall that contained turquoise yarn. Thankfully I have textile art ALL over my house, and swapped it out for an all white one that was in my kids room!
