One Month Postpartum Update

We are officially just over one month of being a family of 5, so I wanted to give a quick one month update and share some of our most used baby items so far!

Theo is doing wonderful and growing in so many ways already. His last check up was at two weeks so I am not sure what he weighs now, but at his last check up he was 8lbs 5oz. From his first check up at 2 days old til that two week appointment he gained 21 ounces!!! I know he has grown significantly since then too!

He is starting to hold our gaze more and smile so big! It’s the sweetest thing ever!

In the beginning he really preferred me and fussed with Joe, and although he mostly has eyes for mom, he has thankfully gotten over that and will calm down in his arms!

Night time has been up and down and all over the place. He started off mostly just waking for his feedings, but recently seems to be uncomfortable or gassy at night. He doesn’t really cry, but grunts and squirms in his sleep. Maybe he is just a really grunty baby?! He usually gives us the best stretch the first part of the night until around 12/1am, but after that we can sometimes be up almost every hour. We’re working through it and hope he grows out of that soon. Some products we have been trying for this:

mylicon

gripe water

probiotic

nested bean swaddle

NUK

I have definitely had my ups and downs over the last month, from feeling bliss to incredible frustration, desperate for sleep or surprisingly productive at times. My recovery went very smoothly and the worst of it now is still those darn night sweats, and maybe some sore arms or back muscles from holding the baby! Some products that we used daily to help with naps when I need a break are the:

snuggle me organic lounger

solly baby wrap

We also swear by white noise and sometime people even laugh at us because it’s often on in the background at home and even when we go out! We use the echo dot at home, and this travel sound machine.

Jackson and Quinn are the best big brother and big sister! They are both so helpful and loving, doting on Theo every chance they get. I am in awe of them and so proud!! They love holding Theo with the Boppy so we have been getting a ton of use out of it even when I’m not nursing.

Nursing has been going well! My soreness lasted a couple of weeks and thankfully it’s been smooth sailing. Theo seems to prefer nursing on one side at a time but nurse closer to every 2-2.5 hrs. Sometimes he can go 3 hrs. I try to let him take the lead and follow his cues. One product I’ve used multiple times is the Nature Bond Silicone Milk Saver Manual Pump. I’ve used it when I feel engorged on one side to catch milk while Theo nurses on the other side. I’ve collected 3oz on one side with this thing!! So convenient and easier to use than an electric pump. I have a decent freezer stash mostly thanks to this little gem!

We are adjusting as a family of 5 and have had a couple big family outings to pick pumpkins and to church! I’ve loved using my Miss Fong diaper bags which has made being out and about easier! I was adamant about having a backpack style diaper bag that also looked cute to be an everyday bag! The new Miss Fong Diaper bag checks all my boxes for function and style! I particularly love it’s sleek design and details such as gold zippers and snaps, cute tassels on the front zippers, and overall quality of the material; plus the different compartments for all the baby essentials + my water and snacks! Its the perfect size to hold all I need without being stuffed or bulky. It’s been perfect.

As we head into month two I am excited for the approaching holidays, seeing Theo interact more and more with us and making more family memories!!
